Why in News:
The Union Minister of Electronics and IT warned the industry that failure to adopt Six Sigma standards could lead to suspension of ECMS incentives, pushing for quality reforms in manufacturing.

    What are Six Sigma Standards?

•  Six Sigma is a quality management methodology used to:

             – Reduce defects and errors in processes
             – Improve efficiency and consistency

   Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS)

     About:

•  ECMS is launched by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
•  It aims to build a self-reliant electronics component ecosystem in India.
•  The scheme focuses on attracting domestic and global investments.

   Key Features:

•  Initially notified in 2025 with an outlay of ₹22,919 crore.
•  The Union Budget 2026–27 increased the allocation to ₹40,000 crore.
•  Incentive Structure:

           – Provides turnover-linked, capex-linked, or hybrid incentives
           – A portion of incentives is linked to employment generation

•  Incentives are given on a first-come, first-served basis to firms ready for early production.

   Tenure:
      – Total 6-year duration
      – Includes 1-year gestation period for turnover-linked incentives
      – Capex incentives available for 5 years
